Motor Sport Magazine selected their Photo of the Year recently and it is a well-deserved one. It is this image captured by Victor Eleuterio’s from DPPI.
In this shot, we see an incredible moment from Gabriel Bortoleto’s sprint race crash at Interlagos. While the car was destroyed in that incident, the crew was able to rebuild it in time for Saturday’s qualifying session. More importantly the driver was ok and was able to participate the rest of the weekend.
This image captures not only the destructive force of modern Formula 1 wrecks but also highlights the amazing improvements in safety. Decades of technical innovations and updated regulations made this crash look a lot worse than it was. Accidents happen in motor racing, at least now most of them as much less consequential than before.
